Be careful — scammers have become more active ahead of the holidays!
Before New Year’s, many people are looking for gifts, planning trips, and booking vacations — and fraudsters take advantage of this. Cases where people are asked to transfer money for “advance reservations” have become especially common.
Fake websites and listings
They create look-alikes of popular services and offer “the best prices,” demanding prepayment. Once the money is sent — they disappear.
Rental housing with a catch
Perfect photos and a low price. The “owner” asks for prepayment to “hold the date.” Money sent — no accommodation.
Messages with fake promotions
Emails and texts offering “huge discounts” lead to fraudulent sites where your data can be stolen or you can be tricked into paying.
How to protect yourself:
— Check the website address and reviews.
— Don’t trust deals that seem too good to be true.
— Never transfer money to personal bank cards for reservations.
May your holidays be safe!
Don’t follow suspicious links and don’t send money to strangers.
