Eldik Bank: The UN Global Compact as a Platform for Responsible Business
On January 21, the first meeting of the Board of Directors of the UN Global Compact Network in Central Asia was held. The meeting was attended by Ulanbek Nogaev, Chairman of the Management Board of OJSC “Eldik Bank,” who is a member of the Network’s Board of Directors.
During the meeting, the results of the Network’s activities for 2023–2025 were reviewed, and key approaches to shaping the work strategy for the 2026–2030 period were discussed.
The proposed strategy предусматривает the development of partnership-based formats of cooperation between companies, the expert community, and international partners; the implementation of joint initiatives; the promotion of best practices in sustainable development; as well as the use of analytical and research tools to develop sustainable business solutions and enhance the competitiveness of companies in the region.
It should be noted that OJSC “Eldik Bank” is an active participant in the UN Global Compact and became the first bank in the Kyrgyz Republic to join the Network in 2023, alongside more than 17,000 leading companies from 160 countries worldwide. The Chairman of the Bank’s Management Board, Ulanbek Nogaev, is the only representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to be included in the Board of Directors of the UN Global Compact Network in Central Asia.
Commenting on the results of the meeting, Ulanbek Nogaev emphasized that the UN Global Compact Network is a significant international platform for promoting the principles of sustainable development and responsible business conduct. According to him, participation in the Network enables companies to implement best international practices, strengthen their contribution to social and environmental development, and improve the quality of corporate governance. In this regard, he called on representatives of the Kyrgyz business community to more actively join the UN Global Compact Network and leverage its potential for sustainable and long-term development.
For reference: The UN Global Compact Network in Central Asia brings together more than 100 companies from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan that have declared their commitment to the principles of responsible business conduct and their readiness to take practical steps toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
